Hi, I'm looking for a book that I read in the late '70's or early '80's. It was a collection of scary stories, probably aimed at a juvenile or young adult audience, and the only story I can remember from it involved a weary traveller trying to find somewhere to stay during a stormy night. He finally happens across some sort of inn or tavern where the owners and other customers are quite hospitable and take very good care of him. Out of gratitude, he leaves a few gold coins on a wooden table. The next day he discovers that the place had burned down years ago and the "people" who were so kind to him must have been ghosts. His coins are still on the table, which is burned nearly to cinders.

Basically, it's a twist on the ghostly hitchhiker urban legend, only in this case the traveller is the one actually alive.

Not a lot to go on, I know.

Thanks, you guys! :-)
